West Park Community Tree Planting

Join Fairmount Park Conservancy for a community volunteer day at Lansdowne Glen near the Horticulture Center. Together, we will work on tree planting, removing invasive species, and trash pick up. All tools will be provided, including gloves.
BACKGROUND
The Lansdowne and Montgomery creek valleys, which wind through the grounds of the Horticulture Center and eventually make their way to the Schuylkill River, are in the process of being restored through a forest restoration project led by Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.

9:00 am Volunteers arrive and sign in
9:15 am Welcome remarks, projects, and safety overview
9:20 am Group photo
9:30 am Begin projects
11:45 am Wrap up projects and gather tools
11:50 am Group photo at the end of the event
12:00 pm Event ends
MEETING LOCATION
Please park in the Horticulture Center parking lot (off of N Horticultural Dr.) and meet us at the Horticultural Center main entrance area. We will start our session there and move on to our work site in the Lansdowne Glen area.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

In general, please wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We strongly recommend wearing long pants that cover your ankles and long sleeves to protect your arms.

Sturdy, closed-toe shoes like boots or sneakers are required (no ballet flats, flip flops, or sandals).

Volunteers are also required to wear gloves while working. Gloves will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

You may also want to consider wearing a hat or sunglasses.

Please bring a reusable water bottle. We will provide jugs for refilling.

There are bathrooms (porta-potties) available nearby.
PARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking available in the park. As always, NEVER leave valuables in your car!
POSTPONEMENT/CANCELLATION POLICY
In the event of heavy rain or other severe conditions, the event will be canceled and attendees will be notified.
